A popular and well-known taxi driver influencer described changes to the Knowledge of London (KoL) testing criteria as “more fair and understandable” in his latest posted video.
Tom Hutley, London taxi driver and successful YouTuber with over 48,000 subscribers, has reviewed changes made by Transport for London (TfL) which will affect how students learning to become taxi drivers are tested.
Changes that have already been implemented by TfL regulators include:
Red Line Update
The red line policy will be retained, however if a candidate accumulates 4 ‘D’ grades, they will return to the start of the same stage, as opposed to the start of the previous stage.
New deadlines set for each step
At the end of the allotted time, applicants will be required to attend a meeting with the Knowledge of London manager to discuss their progress.

Changes to Restriction Races Requested on Appearances
“No traffic lights working” – should be removed and no longer requested on appearances.
Obstacle Races (multiple drops/road closures/LOL (leave left) or LOR only) – to be limited to Stage 5 (21’s) only and can only be requested on a maximum of 1 race each spawn.
