KLM will offer an air-rail connection between Schipol and Amsterdam Centraal

The plane, as we know, is part of the multimodal combination of travel – it is normally combined with something else – whether by car, coach, train or metro.

KLM operates one of these connections, passengers can book a train ticket from Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station with Nova Scotia Dutch Railways.

NS and KLM together – Rendering, KLM

According to the airline, the service is primarily for foreign visitors traveling with KLM to Schiphol and staying in accommodation in Amsterdam.

The result will be that you can book your entire trip in one place and avoid tedious queues to buy tickets or trying to figure out how to use an ATM.

Previously, KLM passengers had the option of combining their flight tickets with car rental or taxi service through the CarTrawler booking platform. The new train ticket is an additional option, not only to facilitate the reservation of passengers, but also to encourage them to use rail transport.

In terms of booking, after completing the booking procedure, travelers receive their train tickets via email from NS Dutch Railways.

Beyond the center of Amsterdam

Clearly, there are opportunities (and life) beyond Amsterdam, so NS and KLM are worth offering other domestic rail services to and from Schiphol from various NS destinations together. .

This fills a large connectivity gap in end-to-end passenger journeys, allowing people to not turn to cars or taxis, but instead use options that are less harmful to the environment.

Changes happen slowly – and that’s something I’d like to see other airlines replicate (eg airport-to-city ticket or later connectivity). For NS and KLM, they have found a way to do this.

It will be interesting to see if other national rail operators voluntarily decide to work hand in hand with the airlines.
