New rules for setting up GPS in taxis in Bangalore

Three years after the Center made vehicle tracking devices and the panic button mandatory in passenger vehicles, the state government formed a committee to develop guidelines to implement the rule. The rule was published in 2018.

The state Department of Transportation sought to enforce it in December 2018, but due to opposition from taxi drivers, it was suspended. In an order, the state set up a committee headed by the additional commissioner of transportation to form the guidelines.
