Volunteers renovate the Arc garden
In conjunction with HandsOn San Diego, volunteers from Collins Aerospace recently helped renovate the garden at the Gerber Family Center at the Arc of San Diego in Chula Vista (www.arc-sd.com). The project included the reconstruction and replacement of flowerbeds, which are used by clients of L’Arc’s day programs. Volunteers helped dig the perimeter to remove old wood and allow new support stakes to be installed. Then the planter was painted and new soil was added. Volunteers also helped weed the small and large raised beds. The San Diego Arc serves approximately 170 people with disabilities at the Chula Vista site. These programs help clients achieve their personal goals, including maximum participation in the community and in work environments. All programs include cooking and gardening, art lessons, music therapy sessions and computer skills, as well as life and social skills. Visit collinsaerospace.com.
Please send articles to fyi.south@sduniontribune.com at least two weeks before the events take place.
